The amount of 101.53 million euros will be received by Greece from the EU Solidarity Fund for the disasters caused by the bad weather “Daniel” after the decision of the Council of Ministers.
In particular, today the Council of Ministers agreed to mobilize the European Union Solidarity Fund to provide assistance to Greece, Italy, Slovenia, Austria, and France, in relation to six natural disasters that occurred in 2023. The assistance will come from the EU budget for 2024.
The European Union Solidarity Fund will be mobilized for a total amount of EUR 1028.54 million in commitment and payment appropriations, including the amount of EUR 231.78 million as advances, of which respectively:
- EUR 101.53 million to provide assistance to Greece following the floods caused by the Mediterranean storm “Daniel” in many locations in central Greece, particularly in the region of Thessaly, in September 2023, including an amount of EUR 25.38 million .euro as a down payment
- €446.64 million to provide assistance to Italy following floods caused by extremely heavy rainfall in the Emilia-Romagna region in May 2023 (€378.83 million), including an amount of €94.71 million as an advance , and in the Tuscany region in October and November 2023 (€67.81 million)
- EUR 428.41 million to provide assistance to Slovenia following flooding caused by heavy rainfall across the country in August 2023, including an amount of EUR 100 million as an advance payment
- €5.20 million to help Austria after floods caused by heavy rains in its southern regions in August 2023
- €46.76 million to provide assistance to France following floods caused by heavy rainfall in the former Nord-Pas-de-Calais region in November 2023, including an amount of €11.69 million as an advance.
