Bad weather Alexandros: Which areas flooded – When does it recede [Εικόνες] –

Problems in many areas were caused by bad weather Alexandros, which has been affecting the country for the last few hours. It brought snow, storms and tons of water to many areas.

The EMY earlier updated the emergency worsening of the weather, according to which the extreme weather will be locally intense mainly in the eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese and will last until Saturday night (16-11-2024).

The picture in the country from bad weather Alexandros

Storms swept over Symi. Brought materials and stones reached the beach at Emporios.

After six months of no rain the skies opened in Syros. The storm turned the roads of the island into rivers. Alleys in Ermoupoli were flooded.

The most intense phenomena were recorded in Thessaly, Evia, Fthiotida, where residents and state apparatus have been on alert for two days.

Residents fortified houses and shops in Volos as well.

Heavy rain, fog and gale force winds swept across Evia.

«So far we have had no problems other than some power issues. It was bad weather we could handle“, said the mayor of Mantoudi Giorgos Tsapourniotis.

The streets of Crete are rivers

Bad weather Alexandros is ongoing, with heavy rains and storms and strong winds in eastern Greece, according to the updated Emergency Bulletin of Dangerous Weather Phenomena (EDEKF) issued by EMY.

The phenomena will be locally intense, mainly in the eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese and will last until Saturday night (16/11).

At the same time, the bad weather also reached Crete, where the city of Chania was “drowned” by the floods caused by the volume of rainwater.

The roads in Chania turned into rivers due to the rain that occurred on Saturday afternoon.

As can be seen in the video of zarpanews.gr, from Kydonias Street in Chania, the water level, after the rain in the city center, is quite high, making it difficult for pedestrians to cross while cars are moving at low speeds.

High levels of rain and strengthened winds in the east and in the Aegean

High levels of rainfall were recorded in the eastern mainland and Sporades until noon on Saturday, according to the meteo.gr / National Observatory of Athens network of automatic weather stations.

In particular, almost 100 millimeters of rain (99mm) were recorded in Steni Evia, followed by Setta Evia with 88 millimeters.

The 8 highest rainfall heights recorded until 12:00 noon are in: Steni Evia, Setta Evia, Skopelos, Skyros, Glossa Skopelos, Skiathos-Xanemos, Zagora Pelion and Skiathos.

At the same time, strengthened north winds blow in Sterea, Evia and especially in the Aegean.

According to meteo.gr, the highest wind gusts were recorded in Paximada Karystos, where they exceeded 100 km/h (101 km/h) as well as in Samothraki (90 km/h).

They “sunk” the cars in Larissa

Road problems, mud, soil erosion and damage were the result of the passage of bad weather “Alexander” in Larissa.

In particular, the rain that occurred in the last 24 hours in combination with the implementation of drainage projects caused problems for the Gonnos of the Municipalities of Tempe.

As reported by residents of the area according to ERT, subsidence occurred in the places where works were being carried out, while there were also cases of cars that “sunk”.

What do the residents say?

As recorded by the local blog perataria.gr:

“Until now, the women of the village complained about the dust that filled their houses due to the drainage works that were being carried out in the village, as well as the poor workmanship that citizens reported with the construction of the project.

Now came a rain – not a heavy one – and the Gonni were drowned. Wells opened, cars fell into the sewer ditches and people are asking for justice without finding it.

And the worst – so far at least – as citizens report, the municipal Authority and the opposition are absent…”.

“However, it is good, beyond what and how the issue will be managed by the Municipality and the Community, that pedestrians and especially drivers avoid disputed areas with ditches settling, but something should be done immediately with the citizens who cannot take out or put in their vehicles to their homes.”

The first snows

The landscape in Florina, Kozani and Kastoria is white.

The first snows also fell in Imathia. Shelly in white. Rapid drop in temperature in Chania Pelion as well.
