The onslaught of bad weather Alexandros has begun and for 30 hours it will “pound” most of the country in waves with severe storms and gale force winds.
Thunderstorms, lightning and large amounts of rain in a short period of time increase the risk of flooding.
The first significant snowfalls that appeared today occurred in Florina, Ptolemaida, Kastoria (western Macedonia) and mountainous central-western Greece.
It is noted that a few minutes after 22:00 on Friday night, 112 was activated in the Dodecanese and eastern Aegean calling on residents to avoid travel.

Problems in Attica from the heavy rainfall
The short, but powerful passage of the storm, turned day into night in Attica.
Heavy rain, of short duration, started from the west and passed through almost all areas of the law, creating traffic confusion and queues of kilometers on the roads of Attica.
With the first midday rain, Poseidon Avenue at the height of Alimos was flooded with vehicles only moving from one lane.
At the same time, roads in Koukaki turned into rivers, in Mikrolimano the sea became one with the land, while the electricity station in Monastiraki, after the first storm, started to drip.
In Kallithea there was subsidence of the road surface due to a combination of poor workmanship and rain.
In particular, 2 days ago, works were being carried out on a road and with today’s heavy rain, a specific part of the roadway completely caved in. The result of this was that the rainwater entered the store’s basement, and a vehicle was also trapped.
In Symi in the morning, residents were unable to leave their homes, while in Moires Heraklion, in Crete, roads turned into rivers.
“We have a recurrence of bad weather with strong effects in the next few hours and until Saturday night. The heaviest rains and storms are concentrated in the eastern country,” said Michalis Siutas, Ph.D. in Meteorology.
Traffic stoppage in Evia
According to local media, in North Evia there is a traffic stop at parts of the road – crossings, where streams pass. Specifically in the Portara location in Mantoudi and in the Paraskevorema location in Prokopi of the Municipality of Mantoudi Limni – Agia Anna.
Throughout the bad weather, the entire Civil Protection mechanism of the Prefecture will be on standby.
The General Regional Police Directorate of Central Greece has announced that, due to the impending adverse weather phenomena and until they subside, by Decision of the Police Directorate of Evia and for safety reasons, a temporary ban on the movement of vehicles in the following points of the road network of the Municipality of Mantoudi applies as a precaution – Limni – Agia Anna, Prefecture of Evia:
- Irish crossing on the Pournari position, on the municipal road Drymonas – Kerasias (between Cataracta and Drymonas) and in both traffic streams.
- Irish crossing on the Portara site, near N.E. Mantoudiou in both traffic streams.
- Irish crossing on the Panagia – Paraskevorema position, near T.K. Prokopio in both traffic streams.

Watch live the course of bad weather Alexandros:
In the middle of the night, bad weather will “hit” Pelion
At the center of the bad weather will be Pylio with the state apparatus on foot.
“This is good because firstly the water is needed by the earth and secondly we have to test the system. We have done these things well or we have not done them”, commented Dimitris Kouretas, regional governor of Thessaly.
Construction machinery is cleaning up the stream in long-suffering Milina, with residents on alert as after ‘Daniel’ they shudder at the prospect of another heavy wave of rainfall.
“When I hear that “Alexander” is about to come, my soul trembles, because as you can see we are in the river. Even though I built the house, the house was in the air,” says a resident of Milina.
In “red” Thessaly and Central Greece

According to the meteorological forecasts, the rain heights can cause up to 100 millimeters, with the risk of creating flooding phenomena.
“For the above areas, and even more so in those that will be on red alert, we draw the attention of the residents who should be alert and if necessary follow the instructions of the Authorities”, emphasized Vassilis Kikilias, Minister of Civil Protection .
