Premiere in the Vilco. On Thursday evening, Bad Vilbel city marketing invited people to the New Year’s reception in the town hall. Around 100 guests came – from retailers and restaurants to politicians. A number of wishes were also expressed.
Daniel Kumelis made a confident first appearance in front of the general public on Thursday evening in the garden hall of the Bad Vilbel town hall. He has been managing director of the “Stadtmarketing Bad Vilbel” association for almost a month. He used the city marketing’s first New Year’s reception to introduce himself and his vision. “Bad Vilbel is a pearl,” he said. In Bad Vilbel, some people’s self-perception is worse than it should be. “We are professionalizing the structures and are looking for employees for the new city manager and the tourism sector.” The main thing now is to listen, to record and address problems. “We have a lot planned. But it can all only be done together.”
Kumelis then took a seat on the small podium in the garden hall. Jan-Gerrit Viehl (aspect interior design), Rafael Jimenez Davila (delicatessen Al Rafa – Il Buon Palato) and lawyer and notary Jürgen Wiegand also took part in a round of discussions led by FFH moderator Daniel Granitzki. They all looked at their current situation but also at the current problems of many business owners on Frankfurter Strasse. Many owner-managed businesses have been closed. “I have the feeling that this is tipping at the moment,” said Rafael Jimenez Davila. “And that’s a shame.”
Kumelis explained that everything is better than vacancy. But he knows that you have to actively approach the landlords. Then you could counteract the vacancy and ensure variety in Vilbel’s city center. “We have to proactively get ahead of the wave.”
Jürgen Wiegand said that this was probably the biggest challenge. “It would be nice if the landlords were willing to accept giving some breathing room so that everyone can still earn something.” There was great applause from the around 100 guests – including honorary mayor Thomas Stöhr, Hassia senior boss Günter Hinkel and numerous others Business owners from Bad Vilbel, like Elena Wolf from “Just Beautiful – Wedding Studio by Elena” or Julian Rosenberger, owner of the Bad Vilbeler Süd-Apotheke. Jan-Gerrit Viehl, who recently moved his shop to Niddaplatz, wanted Bad Vilbel to “remain sustainably in people’s minds”. To achieve this, the construction site and traffic situation must also improve. Because it causes problems for everyone. Jürgen Wiegand would like the clubs to be brought more on board. “I am the chairman of the neighborhood support group myself. Many other clubs are also here today. They also need to be represented in this regard.” In addition, with regard to the catering industry, the bureaucratic hurdles need to be reduced. He wanted “we to continue to improve the cityscape”.
The new managing director Kumelis listened intently. Then he dared to look. “Of course it’s also about the long term. What’s important is that people stay here.” That’s why the Hessentag is a very big opportunity, but certainly not the only measure. “When we meet here again in six years, hopefully we will see that it worked.”
In addition to Kumelis, a city manager will also be responsible for this in the future. Deputy city marketing chairman Jürgen Werner explained that around 50 applications had been received for the position. “We will talk to five of them in the next few weeks.” It is important that the professionalization of city marketing has been recognized. Werner looked ahead. “We will be able to introduce a city manager in the coming months.” The New Year’s reception, however, should become a tradition. “We want to do this annually in the future.”
Bad Vilbel’s mayor Sebastian Wysocki (CDU) spoke of a “decisive year for the city center”. The construction site on Frankfurter Straße has finally been completed and the S-Bahn is running on its own tracks. That’s something to really look forward to.
And Kumelis also had an announcement ready. Of course, he first has to get an idea and have a lot of conversations. But concrete work is already being done. “The first pilot project will start very soon.”
