The news of floating mines in the Black Sea has seriously damaged the upcoming summer tourist season. This was said in an interview with Radio Varna by the chairman of the Tourism Committee in the National Assembly Ilin Dimitrov.

“This was entirely hybrid news, which hindered the upcoming season. After the dissemination of this information, mass cancellations of reservations from Germany began. However, as we understand, there are no floating mines to the Black Sea,” Dimitrov said.

“We are working extremely actively to promote Bulgaria as a safe and secure destination,” Dimitrov added.

The chairman of the Tourism Committee is still cautious in his expectations for the upcoming summer season due to the difficult situation in Europe and the war in Ukraine.

“In all probability, we will not welcome Russian and Ukrainian tourists in the summer. We will not welcome Belarusian tourists either, as it is possible that Russian citizens will try to enter Bulgaria through third countries. Here we are talking mostly about apartment owners,” Dimitrov said. . He described as sustainable the market of our neighboring countries.

“There are already more than 1,400 hotels hosting refugees. The BGN 40 state aid for hoteliers is the only measure that supports their sector at the moment. It will help keep jobs and prolong the season, no matter how rude it sounds.” Ilin Dimitrov also commented.

He recently participated in the Conference of Committee Chairs in the Parliaments of the 27 EU Member States on Sustainable Tourism and the Green Pact. During the forum, Ilin Dimitrov expressed Bulgaria’s position against the rise in kerosene and biofuels, which are expected to double. According to the expert, this will seriously affect tourism in Europe, as air ticket prices will double, and thus travel to non-EU countries will become more attractive. Bankruptcies of airlines are not ruled out, warned Ilin Dimitrov.
