The restrictions in force in Greece – quarantine, curfew and other measures for the red and dark red zone, have been extended for another week, ie. until April 5, MIA reported.
During a regular press conference this afternoon, Deputy Minister of Civil Protection Nikos Hardalyas said that by the middle of next week, a commission of epidemiologists would discuss the possibility of opening retail and schools, as well as travel from one municipality to another.
An important “weapon” for the resumption of activities will be the opportunity for citizens to test for coronavirus at home, the so-called “Self testing”.
Deputy Health Minister Vassilis Kondozamanis explained that in early April, citizens will have access to free tests through the pharmacy network.
They will be able to use one test per week for a period of two months, and in the first phase the possibility of giving priority to persons under 67 years of age is being discussed.
In case of a positive result, the person will have to register on a special platform and take an additional test to verify. Detailed protocols on how to use are expected in the next period.
In order to gradually restore economic activity in Greece, workers in maritime affairs, retail, large companies, tourism, hospitality and the judiciary will have to take quick tests once a week.
In parallel, the government will pass a law on mandatory self-testing once a week for educators and students to open schools without any problems.
For other citizens, home use tests will not be mandatory.
The new tests, combined with the vaccination process, will make it easier to open up the country, the government said.
Greece has been in quarantine since November 7 and a curfew is in force in the country.
