While Yakura fans are eager to discover their favorite franchise in a live-action version, they regret the absence of this element deemed essential…

No karaoke?

Yes, we will have to deal with: There will be no karaoke scenes in the live-action Yakuza series, despite the prayers of fans who love this flagship activity present in the saga’s mini-games. The producers of the TV series are taking a more serious approach and seem to focus primarily on the human emotions of its characters, as specified by the media outlet The Gamer who spoke with executive producer Erik Barmack; the latter nevertheless specified that “singing could possibly be present“.

“When you start thinking about how to encapsulate this world in six episodes, there’s so much source material to mine.“, he also confided. The scenarios that are too secondary to the game will thus be put aside.”I think we’re digging into the human emotions and the emotional elements of the characters in this iteration.“, declared the main actor Ryoma Takeuchi (who will play Kazuma Kiryu).

“Because this series is an origin story, we wanted to make sure that fans felt emotionally connected to these characters… There’s a balance between the world, which is so eccentric, and these characters, which have to feel real to everyone watching the show.” – Erik Barmack

What is it about ?

The live-action series adaptation of Like a Dragon: Yakuza will arrive on October 24. Viewers will be able to follow the adventures of the legendary Kazuma Kiryu, played by Ryoma Takeuchi, over six episodes. The teaser unveiled at Comic-Con has already whetted the appetite of viewers, who are eagerly awaiting the adaptation. It revealed that Kento Kaku (House of Ninjas) will play the crime boss Nishiki, Kiryu’s former childhood friend. The setting will be set between 1995 and 2005, two periods strongly suggesting an adaptation of the first game, which closely followed the gangster after his release from a 10-year prison sentence. Director Masharu Take explained about this: “In 1995, the protagonist is still young and makes many mistakes, mistakes that lead him to spend ten years in prison and suffer the consequences when he is released in 2005. I tried to show these differences between the two periods, and the actors also helped me achieve this.”
