Bad news for holidaymakers in Algarve: travel advice turns orange

The change in the travel advice means that only necessary trips are allowed, even if you have already been vaccinated.

Partying young people

The number of infections in the region is rising sharply. Portugal registered last week highest number of corona infections since February. That is why a curfew has already been introduced in 45 municipalities.

Causes of the increase in Portugal? The delta variant of the coronavirus and young people who have not yet been vaccinated. The latter is about the Portuguese young people themselves, but also about young people celebrating from Great Britain and the Netherlands.

‘The virus is not gone yet’

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports that it is closely monitoring the situation. “Many European countries have yellow or green travel advice. But the virus is not gone yet,” the ministry writes. The number of infections is also increasing in Spanish regions, which is why the travel advice for Spain also remains orange.

Do you want to go to destinations with yellow or green travel advice this summer? That is possible. “But beware: don’t rely on just the color code,” warns the ministry. “There may be entry restrictions.”

Very high risk area

From tomorrow, the countries of Mongolia, Namibia, Oman and Kuwait will be considered very high-risk areas, the ministry writes. Anyone returning from one of these countries must be quarantined from tomorrow and there is a mandatory test.
