When does the new cinema in Bad Nauheim open? Giovanni Speranza doesn’t know either. The landlords have contractually assured him that a ventilation system will be built. But the system is still missing.
Bad Nauheim – The cinema in Bad Nauheim was a gem even before it closed in 2018. There is only one hall, but it exudes a lot of atmosphere and cosiness. A lot has happened since the Bad Nauheim advertising specialist Giovanni Speranza took over the house in 2018. Rows of seats have been removed to give guests even more legroom. There are now 104 seats, in front of which there are tables with dimmable lamps to place drinks. The cinema technology is state-of-the-art, the stage has been enlarged so that other cultural events are also possible in the »FilmBühne«.
The foyer is currently being completely redesigned. Everything should look new and friendly, and when you enter the cinema you want to fall into one of the armchairs and immediately watch a film. But that is not possible. Because there is no ventilation system in the cinema.
When does the cinema in Bad Nauheim open: He is constantly asked about it
Giovanni Speranza is an entrepreneur, advertising specialist and lecturer in rhetoric. As a presentation trainer, he helps other people to get their stage fright under control. If you ask him why the cinema has still not opened, he doesn’t want to say much. But as soon as he opens his pasta factory “Ciao Nonna” (in German: “Hello Grandma!”, A personal greeting to a great pasta cook) in Parkstrasse 4 in the morning, he is asked about the cinema. Lawyers are busy with the matter. »The fact is that the ventilation system is still missing. The landlord contractually guaranteed the ventilation to me, the contract was drawn up by her lawyer. «But unfortunately not implemented. Why? Speranza has no answer.
Cinema in Bad Nauheim: landlady blocks the request
The WZ asked the landlord, but received no satisfactory information either. The lady was very curt on the phone, put the blame on Speranza, said “Hello!” And hung up the phone.
This may be an unsatisfactory situation for cinema fans. For Speranza, it’s about his existence. He has already invested 100,000 euros in the cinema. Last year, Hessian Film Funding promised him a grant of 140,000 euros – the highest sum that HessenFilm und Medien GmbH has planned for this year’s cinema investment program.

The jury was obviously impressed by the concept of the Bad Nauheim cinema maker. Speranza does not want to show blockbusters with advertising on the screen, but rather artistically valuable films. He brought Doron Wisotzky on board to select the films. The “shooting star among screenwriters” (“Süddeutsche Zeitung”), who grew up in Bad Nauheim, heads the script department at the Munich Film School and has won many awards for scripts for films such as Matthias Schweighöfer’s “Endemacher”. Wisotzky should ensure a high quality cinema program.
Cinema in Bad Nauheim should have opened a year ago
So an ambitious project, but one that is slowed down by a disdainful ventilation system. The system is essential for the operation of the cinema. But Speranza doesn’t even have a construction schedule, and doesn’t even know whether a contract has already been awarded to craftsmen. “Nobody got in touch with me.”
The cinema was originally supposed to open in October – mind you, in October 2020. The Italian name “Speranza” means “hope”. The filmmaker who was unable to attend has not given up on that for a long time, even if he cannot explain why a contractually guaranteed service has not long since been fulfilled.
