A rain of money in a spectacular dimension for the small market town of Bad Großpertholz: A native of Pertholz with roots in Weikertschlag and her last residence in Vienna bequeathed half of her inheritance to her home town; 425,000 euros from the estate went into the community account.

Apparently not much is known about Maria Winkelbauer, née Winter, in her homeland. Born on March 1st, 1929, like many people of her generation, she had a hard time at a young age due to the global economic crisis, the Second World War and the hard times of reconstruction. According to Mayor Hermann Hahn (Pertholz-Aktiv), she described this in a short letter to the community: Her father Leopold was employed by Waldgut Pfleiderer, when she was ten she moved to Gutshof Hirschenstein in Joachimstal, and at 14 she graduated from a year-old Elementary school in my pocket. She later lived in Vienna for many years and built up a small fortune before she passed away on June 9, 2019. She has now been buried at the Großpertholz cemetery.

Probate proceedings dragged on. There were no direct relatives, as Hahn describes: In the will, half of the deceased placed the market town of Bad Großpertholz as heir, the other half should go to the Vienna Animal Welfare Association, Caritas and SOS Children’s Villages. On January 8, 2020, lawyer Edmund Kitzler was commissioned by the now former mayor Martina Sitz for the community with the treatise. Even before the political change of power in March 2020, the community board decided to preserve and care for the grave for 20 years (Winkelbauer had asked for ten years) – and that each beneficiary from the estate had to erect a memorial plaque.

Mayor Hahn explains to the NÖN that the proceedings lasted until the summer of 2021 due to “disagreements with the court commissioner” required inspections and deadlines ”. Last week, however, the municipality received 425,000 euros. According to Hahn, there is a second, small remaining amount, the majority of which should have to be used to finance fees and the lawyer’s fee, says the mayor – the clitoris explicitly thanks: His fee is 5,000 euros net in view of the asset and the “not entirely insignificant The effort involved in the process is a nice concession to the community ”.

What will happen to the money? Hahn wants the inheritance to be used carefully in the interests of the deceased. He wants to talk to the local council about it in the next meeting and – after consulting the finance officer of the state of Lower Austria – propose the creation of a reserve in order to take the money out of the current management: “Funds from this reserve should then be released on a project-specific basis by local council resolution can.”
