Only two people were injured in two serious Cybertruck-related accidents in Mexico. And that is a minor miracle when you see the wrecks. Reason enough for the great boss Elon Musk to do some advertising with it: “Stronger than a nail file,” he posted on social media.
All that was left of the vehicle that crashed on Saturday was a twisted block of steel. Tesla Cybertruck‘s chief engineer, Wes Morrill, admitted that he could not determine the cause of the crash, despite his extensive experience with crash simulations.
“Looking at the photos, it appears that the Cybertruck was brought in several times before coming to rest on its roof. And the front had a big impact,” he says.
The stainless steel SUV hit a statue and overturned in downtown Guadalajara, Mexico, according to police. “When we arrived we thought: no one will get out of here alive,” said fire chief Daniel Curiel Mendoza. But in the end, only the 18-year-old girl who was driving and was thrown from the car because she wasn’t wearing a seat belt, was seriously injured. Three passengers had to be rescued from the wreckage of the three tonne steel car which was completely destroyed. A 16-year-old girl and two men aged 50 and 60 were not even seriously injured. They were taken to the hospital for examination and with minor injuries.
Despite the serious damage, Tesla founder Elon Musk boasted on social media about the quality of the Cybertruck, which has already received a lot of criticism and had initial launch problems.
The exact cause of the accident is not yet known, but local reports indicate that speed combined with lack of experience could be a factor. The car continued into the statue on a stretch of straight road.
In a second accident in Mexico, less than 24 hours later and involving a car that appeared to be coming, no injuries were reported. But here too the car was badly damaged.
So far, only one person has died in an accident with a Cybertruck. A man from Texas got into a ditch, after which the car caught fire. The man could not free himself in time and died.
