E. coli bacteria were found in the drinking water of Assen and Rolde during an inspection. Residents are advised to first boil their drinking water for three minutes. It concerns according to RTV Drenthe about 30,000 households.
How the bacteria ended up in the water is according to the drinking water company WMD not clear yet. The water will be checked in the coming days. The boiling advice remains in effect until the bacteria are no longer found.
Residents of Assen and Rolde do not first have to boil water used when preparing food, showering or washing hands.
The E. coli bacteria occur naturally in the intestines of people and animals. However, the bacteria can lead to stomach and intestinal complaints if contaminated food or water is present.
