The district council will meet again in Freiburg in the future. The trips around the neighborhood triggered by the pandemic are coming to an end.
The district council has arrived. After the pandemic initially no longer allowed meetings and had to gradually switch to an online format, meetings have since taken place in larger halls in the district, such as in Kirchzarten and Staufen. Because in the large meeting room of the office building in Freiburg the distance rules would hardly have been observed. Only committees with fewer people were allowed to consult there. The district council should now meet again in the Freiburg council chamber. District administrator Dorothea Störr-Ritter announced this at her last meeting in Buchenbach.
It should also play a role that the excursions to the district communities were not rewarded with more interest – “the rush of the district residents”, as the district administrator jokingly put it in view of the empty visitor seats in the Buchenbacher Halle, it did not materialise. It could not be established whether the lack of visitors was due to the topics on the agenda or whether the conference venue was more difficult to reach.
It is possible, however, that these experiences play a role in the search for a site for a new administrative building, which has also occasionally been mentioned in budget talks. As reported, there were differing opinions within the district council as to whether the district office should remain in Freiburg or move to a district municipality. A plot of land near the Freiburg town hall in Stühlinger is already being considered.
