The answer is that back to school is right around the corner. The first day of school is Thursday, September 7. The first days off, those associated with the Jewish holiday Yom Kippur and Indigenous Peoples Day, come in late September and early October, respectively.
For its part, it must be taken into account that the Department of Education and the City of New York announced a possible strike by school bus drivers, which could affect thousands of students. Here the City of New York gave transportation alternatives if this were to happen.

Another key reminder: the concept of a “snowless day” that emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic is here to stay. That means lots of snow may mean no in-person classes, but it doesn’t mean “no classes.”
Remote instruction now covers those days, and while we can hardly predict when it might snow enough to close physical classrooms, knowing now could better equip some parents to adapt on the fly if the time comes.
