Jerome Boateng will have to look for a new club for next season as his contract with Olympique Lyon is not renewed. Is there a sensational return to Hamburger SV?
After two years, Jerome Boateng will leave Olympique Lyon again in the summer of 2023. The former national player only made four appearances for OL this season – also due to injury – which is why it has already been decided that his expiring contract will not be extended.
When this became known, numerous HSV fans on social media sensed the chance of being able to persuade Boateng to return to the Volkspark. As a reminder: The central defender was active for the Rothosen from 2007 to 2010 and really got his career going there.
And in fact, Boateng doesn’t seem to be left cold by the many messages. “I noticed that many fans want me to come back to HSV. I’m very happy about that,” said the 34-year-old heaven adding, “All I can say is that I’m not ruling anything out.”
At the end of his career, which Boateng also emphasized, he thinks “not for a long time”. Instead, he wants to “attack in top form again in the summer”.
„[Ich] I only have good memories of Hamburger SV. This club with these fans and this beautiful city belongs in the premier league,” he flirtted with the red trousers.
As romantic as a return would be, it is also clear that Boateng would have to accept a significant drop in salary with such a change. Is HSV actually approaching his ex-player? The coming weeks will tell.
