President Massimiliano Fedriga has convened the Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces in extraordinary session for this afternoon, to deepen the issue of managing contacts and, in particular, those in the school environment in the current phase of the Covid emergency.
In short, the theme of returning to class after the holidays remains at the center of the political agenda. The Regions push for eliminate the distinction between vaccinated and unvaccinated students and, at the same time, for increase the positive threshold, after which the classes end up in Dad. Meanwhile, new technical meetings are scheduled at Palazzo Chigi in view of what appears to be more and more a certainty, that is the extension of the reinforced Green Pass to work. A rather complex issue, especially as regards the private sector, but which will inevitably be dissolved soon. For this reason, the expectation is growing for the Council of Ministers on Wednesday 5 January, when the hypotheses could become reality, perhaps as early as February.
At the moment, what is worrying is the data concerning the cases of positivity among the youngest, the group that last had access to the vaccine, which is struggling to take off in particular in the 5-11 year old class.
While the first supplies of Ffp2 for schools are arriving, the Minister of Education Patrizio Bianchi has already rejected the hypothesis – supported by the governor of Campania De Luca – of postponing the return to class. The government aims to keep schools open and relegate distance learning only to strict needs. Precisely for this reason, seven days after the bell, the Regions launch the proposal to eliminate the distinction – defined as “discriminatory” by several parties, including prèsidi – between vaccinated and not. In the meantime, nothing has leaked out about the possibility – advanced by the extraordinary Commissioner Figliuolo – of a massive test campaign before the resumption of face-to-face lessons.
In elementary and sixth grade, with four or more infections in the classroom, there is a Dad week and quarantine for all pupils in the class, in addition to the swab (only necessary for the unvaccinated, if those with vaccination coverage have no symptoms ). Below this threshold there is self-surveillance for everyone and the recommendation to wear the Ffp2 mask, as well as that of refraining from frequenting environments other than family ones. This is what the draft of the Regions foresees, which the governors will file in order to advance the proposal to the Government.
The “rational” recommendation of the Regions is to provide for this measure in view of a high vaccination coverage (70%) with low-risk contacts and to take into account the epidemiological trend and in particular the Omicron variant.
