Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Omicron variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to cause new, different symptoms. Recent reports, the Omicron virus can actually cause back pain when someone is infected.
According to the Zoe COVID Symptom Study, back pain is one of the top 20 symptoms of the Omicron COVID variant. Prof Tim Spector, who led the study, claims that about one in five Omicron patients experience back pain.
While there is no specific reason why COVID-19 patients experience these symptoms, experts believe the pain can be debilitating or even limiting mobility.

Experts at VaccinesWork reveal, “Data from South Africa where the Omicron variant was first identified suggest that patients often experience two sets of symptoms – sore throat, nasal congestion, and cough – as well as muscle pain, particularly low back pain.”
“This back pain has been described by a number of people as intense menstrual cramps, kidney stones or muscle spasms,” the health agency explains.
However, keep in mind, back pain is not the only symptom of Covid. The best way to find out if you are infected is to have a Covid test.
According to the Mayo Clinic, muscle and ligament strain, bulging or ruptured discs, arthritis, osteoporosis, and other factors such as age, inactivity, obesity, improper lifting of weights, can also cause back pain.
