Back in the TV box: Jesper “Jeppenator” Norén

Tomorrow, Jesper Tjäder and Oliwer Magnusson will go to the finals in slopestyle at the WC in Aspen, USA. The competition goes live on Viaplay and channel 10 at 17.20. Who comments? Jeppenator of course.

World Cup in freeski goes right now off the rails in the United States. Jesper Tjäder and Oliwer Magnusson moved on the qualifier in slopestyle, and will go to the final tomorrow afternoon. Henrik Harlaut and Oscar Wester miss the final, but all four Swedes also start in Big Air, which starts after the weekend.

Hi, Jesper ”Jeppenator” Norén: What did you think of the slopestyle qualifier at the WC where four Swedes competed?
– A little difficult to give a good answer here as they have not sent out any pictures from the qualifiers yet, have seen the national team’s youtube video where they got some sneak peeks and seem to be good island. Awesome how the level runs away on the jump now with the progress of big tricks in the big air. It will be fun to see how this is translated into the Slopestyle competitions. I’m most pissed that capercaillies and Oliwer moved on, sad for Henke and Oscar but they will come again in the big air qualifier on Monday. It is a sickly good lineup of participants also in addition to the Swedes and fun to see everything back in Aspen so close to xgames so should be the right sick level in the finals.

Tomorrow is the final, broadcast at 17.20 tomorrow Saturday on Viaplay and channel 10, two Swedes moved on Oliwer Magnusson and Jesper Tjäder: What do you think about their chances?
– Both are very stable skiers. Railsen is said to be a bit awkward and I think Tjäder should be able to win bonus points there against the other participants so we keep an eye out for it. Oliwer is always really good at competition, maxed out fun to see him so confident and even with such big tricks with 1800+ spins that he has shown lately can be a really good show. But the starting field is packed with good skiers so they have to watch out for Andri Ragettli, Alex Hall, Colby Stevensen and Evan Mcechran etc. because they learn to go hard too.

On Monday, the World Cup in Aspen continues for Sweden and then it’s Big Air on the schedule where all four Swedes are involved again. What can we expect there from Tjäder, Magnusson, Wester and Harlaut? Who do you believe in a little extra?
– Same here as I said before, Big Air-the level this year has been completely crazy if we look at the World Cup competition in Kreichberg and X Games. My expectations are that we will see the best big air competition of the year this weekend if the jump is good and the riders have a good vibe, so prepare for a show!
If I am to speculate with history in mind, Henke has a silver medal with him from the previous world championships and Oliwer has a podium place from Kreichberg. Therefore, I am eager to see Oliwer put down his 1980 that he almost landed at the last World Cup and of course hope a little extra that Henke gets revenge after the X Games Big air where he got a little poorly paid unfortunately.

OK thanks! Anything else you want to add?
– I just want to direct a little gratitude in different directions! First to Viasat because they invest in Freeski and actually broadcast this live so we all get a chance to take part in the ride. Also want to give the national team props to their youtube channel where they posted funny short videos behind the scenes so we can “be in place” without actually being. Keep it up, everyone thinks this is good for both the sport and for us so we get an insight into what is happening in the world. Finally to the competition organizers around the world who have fought so hard to make the competitions happen despite the prevailing pandemic, it is not easy to be the organizer of any live event and with today’s situation it is fantastic that they actually get it. I do not think I am alone in feeling this way to all of you who are committed to the sport and drive it forward, THANK YOU!
