This Saturday, May 16, 2020 was the official reopening of the beaches in the Basque Country. Some people took the opportunity to go surfing or strolling on the beach.

The sun was there, this Saturday, May 16, 2020, for this first day of reopening of the beaches in the Basque Country. Unfortunately for surfers the conditions were not optimal to fully enjoy this sunny day.

Due to the unfavorable surfing conditions, the surfers fell back on the beach of Les Sables d’Or in Anglet to enjoy the waves:
Control and surveillance operations are carried out by the municipal police and Lifeguards who while waiting to start the beach surveillance season take care of informing and educating people so that they respect the rules. As for example at the Madrague beach in Anglet:

Whether in Biarritz or Anglet, the entrances have a well-differentiated entrance and exit to avoid crossing paths and maintaining social distancing.

Reminder of instructions
- The opening will be done in dynamic mode, that is to say to exercise exclusively so-called mobile activities on the sand: walking, jogging. No question of parking or basking on your towel
- The ocean will be accessible for the practice of nautical activities: surfing, paddle, kayak … It should be noted that if swimming is authorized, it is not supervised at this time of the year.
- Authorization is only valid from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Each beach will have a differentiated entrance and exit.
- Resumption of boating is also authorized from ports, including that of Brise-Lames in Anglet.
- People gatherings are prohibited.
It should be remembered that the mayors of the Basque coast have made a commitment to close access to the coast if it turns out that the instructions were not followed
