Start of the season with flying colors for Villeneuve taekwondo players. First, two young athletes went to the junior world championship in Korea! Inès and Andreas were not unworthy, despite their defeats in the first round, Inès against the future world champion and Andreas against the vice-world champion. The experience is there, and it will forever mark the presence of the Villeneuvois club at the top of world taekwondo. For the title, there is still a little way to go.
During this time, the Villeneuvois club traveled to Spain, to Benicàssim, with part of the team. They won 6 medals out of 8 possible: 2 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze. The next generation is assured, especially since the two youngest medalists, Tizziano and Souleymane, are only 9 years old.
On October 12, having just returned from Spain, the Villeneuve club organized its annual competition: the Villeneuve Open for its 7th edition.
39 clubs from France and Romania present
This year, 260 competitors representing 39 clubs presented themselves, coming from all over France and Romania. All categories were represented, from youngsters to veterans. Several French champions and high-level athletes were present to launch their season. The refereeing body was led by international and Paralympic referee Christine Nguyen. The structure of the Myre-Mory complex, made available by the town hall of Villeneuve-sur-Lot, met all the standards to host such an event. All these elements have made this competition a quality event, thus attracting more and more competitive taekwondoists. The local club positioned itself in 1st place, at home, with 8 gold medals, 9 silver and 18 bronze.
The work of the Villeneuvois professor, Maître Lounes Beroual, at the head of the club since 2016, is starting to bear fruit, especially with this generation which promises a bright future for the bastide club. The Nouvelle-Aquitaine regional championships, at the beginning of December, will be the first step to take before planning ahead.
