The last half of the year Wimmer played on loan for Karlsruher SC. The people of Baden would have liked to have tied the 28-year-old to themselves for a longer period of time, but Wimmer turned down an offer from the KSC. Since this Friday it has been clear why: Wimmer was introduced to Rapid Vienna as a new addition.

“At Karlsruhe he made himself interesting again with good performances and I am very happy that we have managed to bring a player of his format to SK Rapid”, sporting director Zoran Barisic is quoted on the Rapid website.

Wimmer has already passed the tests and will terminate the contract in Stoke

Wimmer will sign a two-year contract with the Hütteldorfer until June 2023. Before that, however, he has to terminate his contract with Stoke City, which is valid until June 2023, after the official end of the loan. The details have already been clarified, Wimmer has successfully passed the medical tests at Rapid.

“I’ve been abroad for almost a decade and have been able to learn a lot in several major football countries. Most recently I had many stations in a shorter time, now I’m longing for a somewhat longer-term task. Rapid is a big number for every Austrian footballer Club has a good name all over Europe, “said Wimmer.

Wimmer made his breakthrough as a professional at ASK Linz, in 2012 he joined 1. FC Köln. After 73 competitive games he moved on to the island, first to Tottenham Hotspur, then to Stoke City. As a regular player in the Premier League, however, he was unable to establish himself, loans – before Karlsruhe, to Hanover and Mouscron – were the result.
