Back at Nordbygg after ten years

With a new battery platform, Hilti is making a comeback at Nordbygg after ten years.
– It will be incredibly fun to meet both old and new customers at Nordbygg again, says Maria Hägg, Marketing Director at Hilti in Sweden.

Two years ago, Hilti launched its new battery platform, which is described as the biggest product launch in Hilti’s history.

– Since the launch was made in August, we didn’t have time to show the platform at Nordbygg that year. But this year there will be an opportunity, Nordbygg is the right stage and arena to do this, says Maria Hägg.

The new 22 volt Nuron battery platform is more powerful than the previous version and can be used for nearly 100 different tools, ranging from smaller screwdrivers and drills to demolition and car removal machines.

– A completely new interface was required to produce this battery which is both smarter and stronger. Above all, we have collected almost all of our tools on this platform. Previously we had both 22 and 36 volts, now both of these have been integrated into the new platform.

The batteries are available in four different sizes, from 2.6-12 Ah, but all can be used on all machines.

– This means a minimization of the need for the number of batteries in the tool park, points out Maria Hägg.

The Hilti Group, with headquarters in Liechtenstein, is today in 120 countries with a total of 30,000 employees. In Sweden, the company has 13 stores from north to south where around 500 people work.

When the new platform launched in August 2022, there were around 70 different tools that were charged with the new battery. Since then, nearly 30 more have been produced. In April and August, additional tools will be presented and at Nordbygg visitors will be able to see and try some of these at Hilti’s stand.

– Among other things, we are showing our latest addition to Hilti’s portfolio, the miter and miter saw, which is one of the most requested tools. It will also be battery powered and will be test driven in our stand.

Fewer batteries mean a smaller climate footprint. But Hilti takes an even bigger approach when it comes to sustainability.

– Globally, the construction sector’s climate impact is five times greater than the aviation industry. This means that major changes are required, including materials and machines that last over time, and as a manufacturer you must take responsibility for the life cycle of machines. We have four years tool service on our products, as we take full responsibility for all costs if something happens. When the tool is no longer used, we take care of it so that it can, among other things, be used in the manufacture of new machines or for repairs in the workshop.

Hilti donates some of the products received to schools and construction training courses to give them the opportunity to use professional machines already during the training. For school leaders, it is possible to apply for this on Hilti’s website. Hilti also helps its customers with analyzes of the tool park to see what is missing, what is not needed or how often the tools are used.

– We want to be the customer’s best partner when it comes to productivity, safety and sustainability. Last year we signed Science Based Targets, which have one of the tougher sustainability requirements and which cover all parts of the company, from production to aftermarket.

At Nordbygg, Hilti will also launch a new so-called exoskeleton that is used to carry tools and machines, especially when working above shoulder height. This is to save shoulders, arms and neck.

– I think many visitors will want to try it, it can make a big difference for the craftsmen, minimizing wear and tear damage and previous sick leave, says Maria Hägg.
