In the programme: solo and trio sonatas by J.S. Bach and CPE Bach
Johann Sebastian Bach is the name most often associated with Baroque music. His genius bore fruit – hundreds of vocal and instrumental works of unsurpassed compositional mastery and emotional impact. He mastered complex polyphonic genres, often denounced as old-fashioned by his contemporaries, but also pioneered new ones, such as the obbligato bass sonata. These are some of the sonatas selected by the three instrumentalists in the current program.
A true luxury in European musical history is that a genius has several sons of genius. Among them, Carl Philipp Emanuel stands out for combining everything he had learned from his father with the aesthetics of the gallant style coming into vogue in the mid-18th century. The gallant trios in the program reveal a full palette of affects and colors: from stormy passions and energetic Allegro movements to melancholic and sorrowful slow movements, presented by the three soloists with deep knowledge and wisdom.
