The 20th International Bach Chamber Music Festival will open a new duo for listeners in the Small Guild on October 19 at the opening concert “Name for Young People” – violinist Madars Liepins and pianist Daumants Liepins.
They are a brother and sister – Liepiņš Daumants is already an internationally recognized pianist, Madara Liepiņa – after schooling in Italy – is currently in Latvia.
“We as personalities are very different – white and black,” admits Madara Liepiņa.
“But when you play together, something turns black and white. It has been very easy for us to play since childhood. ”
The concert program will feature two sonatas by Johann Sebastian Bach, Thomas Antonio Vitali’s “Chakon for Violin Solo” and Igor Stravinsky’s Italian Suite from the ballet “Pulcinella”.
Daumants Liepiņš says about the upcoming concert: “It is very special to experience how playing with a sister from childhood through adolescence, we each change and grow. Now that some time has passed since Madara and I last played together, we will do it again. again – this time with ancient music – by Johann Sebastian Bach and Thomas Antonio Vitali. This music is like breathing – natural, harmonizing and life-giving. But let’s not do without stylizations and jokes – that’s what Stravinsky’s music is. “
