Bach Chamber Music Festival to be opened by gambolists Paolo Pandolfo and Amelia Schemen / Article

The opening concert program will feature compositions by English, French and German composers.

Italian Paolo Pandolfo is world famous viola da gamba virtuoso, who studied at the outstanding “Schola Cantorum Basiliensis” in Jordi Savall in Switzerland, also becoming a professor at this music school.

“In his accusations, Pandolfo combines the past and the present – historical research and improvisation. Convinced that early music can be a powerful source of inspiration, he also includes contemporary music in his concert programs,” the organizers said.

The Frenchman Amélie Chemin is currently an active concert and acclaimed young generation gambist – a Pandolfo schoolgirl and now a colleague, playing together in both ensembles and duets.

The next concerts of the festival will be performed by the theorist Jonatan Bougt from Sweden (December 9 at Mentzendorff House), Latvian pianist Daumants Liepins (December 11 at the Small Guild), harpsichordist Olivier Fortin from France (December 12 at Mentzendorff House), as well as soloists of the Latvian Radio Choir, Ainārs Paukšēns (cello) and Jānis Pelše (positive) under the direction of conductor Pēteris Vaickovskis (December 19 at Riga St. John’s Church).
