A 22-year-old resident of Bruges has been sentenced to five years in prison for child abuse and production of child pornography. As a babysitter, the man supervised his victims, the youngest of whom was barely three years old. On his computer, investigators found a manual for “safe abuse of young girls”.

The hallucinatory facts took place in the course of 2018 and 2019 in young families in Zuienkerke, Bruges and Oostkamp. The unsuspecting parents came into contact with Bruggeling TB (22) via a specialized app, who offered his services as a babysitter. But he shamelessly took advantage of that position to abuse a total of seven young children. Two of them were rape. The youngest was barely three years old.
The facts came to light when one of the victims, a girl from Zuienkerke, told her mother in December last year how TB had raped her. The mother went to the police and the child was subjected to an audiovisual questioning. TB was subsequently arrested and interrogated. He initially minimized the facts, but eventually made full confessions and concluded that he “would like to be banned from babysitting.” He has been behind bars ever since.
Videos of abuse
On TB’s mobile, the investigators found videos that he himself had made of the abuse. The parents of two victims recognized their children in the images. On his computer they also found almost 10,000 child pornographic photos and more than 500 child pornographic films.
But it didn’t stop there. To their dismay, they even found a downloaded child abuse guide. “How to have sex with very young girls … safely” was the title of the document, which explained in a very explicit and almost scientific way how he could have sexual relations with very young girls in a “safe” way.
During the trial in the Bruges criminal court, the attorney asked for eight years of effective imprisonment for TB. The judge held it on Monday at five years in prison, taking into account, among other things, his clean criminal record. After his sentence, the young man will remain at the disposal of the sentencing court for another five years, which can extend his sentence if necessary. In addition, he was banned from working with minors for twenty years. He has to pay a total of almost 20,000 euros in damages to the civil parties.
