In Meta di Sorrento a young couple found themselves protagonists of an affair that profoundly shook the family tranquility. Last summer, the couple hired a babysitter, a 55-year-old woman who quickly entered their circle of trust, gaining an intimate position within the family.
In September, however, the serenity of the house is compromised by an unpleasant episode: a theft. Some jewels had been stolen from the house, objects of modest value, but the simple fact that a stranger had managed to enter the house had disturbed the owners quite a bit. Without wasting time, the couple reports the theft to the police. However, in October, a second theft incident occurs which increases suspicions.
At this point, the carabinieri of the Meta di Sorrento station, coordinated by the Torre Annunziata Prosecutor’s Office, begin to suspect the babysitter. Incredulous, the owners find it hard to believe that the trusted woman could be responsible, but they rely on the advice of the military, who propose to install hidden cameras in various points of the apartment.
The cameras begin to record in secret, monitored exclusively by the couple and the police. It’s an autumn afternoon when the unexpected happens. The house is empty, but the military is watching remotely. The images show the 55-year-old entering the house, heading towards the safe and taking some jewels. Caught in the act, the babysitter leaves the apartment shortly afterwards with the stolen goods, unaware that the police are already waiting for her outside.
The woman is stopped and arrested in flagrante delicto. The stolen jewels are recovered and returned to their rightful owners, visibly relieved but still shaken by an affair that left a bad taste in the mouth. Now the babysitter is awaiting trial, at the disposal of the judiciary
