The video for “Baby Shark”, the popular South Korean children’s song, became the first to exceed 10 billion views on YouTube, a goal that is achieved just over a year after unseating Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito” as the most watched on the digital platform.
The catchy tune, recorded by Korean-American singer Hope Segoine and produced by South Korean educational company Pinkfong, was originally posted on YouTube on June 17, 2016.
Since then, it has become one of the most recognizable songs in the world and even made the Billboard Top100 chart in 2019.
“We are delighted to announce that our beloved ‘Baby Shark’ has set another record,” Pinkfong CEO Min Seok Kim said in a statement on Thursday.
“It’s been a significant journey to see how ‘Baby Shark’ has connected people from all over the world,” he added.
