Baby Reindeer: The Netflix Drama Sparks Real-Life Controversy and Death Threats

Baby Reindeer: The Netflix Phenomenon Taking the World by Storm

Netflix’s Latest Drama Raises Eyebrows

Baby Reindeer has taken the world by storm. The Netflix drama about a stalker and her victim has become an instant hit, attracting over 13 million viewers since its recent launch. Holding the number one spot on Netflix charts across 30 countries, including the UK and US, the series has sparked widespread speculation about the real-life individuals on which the fictional characters are based.

A Controversial Tale Engulfed in Real-Life Intrigue

The identities of characters in Baby Reindeer have remained a subject of intense curiosity, leading to various online conjectures. The main protagonist, ‘Donny,’ portrayed by writer Richard Gadd, has expressly requested viewers not to scrutinize the real individuals behind the series. However, the woman known as the real-life ‘Martha’ has divulged that she has received death threats and abuse from Gadd’s fanbase.

The anonymous ‘Martha,’ in an interview with a reputable news outlet, claimed that Gadd is seeking fame and fortune by exploiting an older woman. Alleging that Gadd is indirectly continuing his harassment through the television show, she stated, “I’m the victim. He’s written a bloody show about me.”

Furthermore, the woman, who vouched not to have been Gadd’s stalker, criticized him for exhibiting “main character syndrome” and denied some of the show’s elements. “I’ve never owned a toy baby reindeer, and I wouldn’t have had any conversation with Richard Gadd about a childhood toy either,” she emphasized.

Gadd’s Past Harassment Ordeal Unveiled

In a revelation, Gadd disclosed that a decade ago, over a period of four and a half years, he received an astonishing amount of communication, testifying to the ordeal he faced. Gadd was bombarded with a staggering 41,071 emails, 744 tweets, 106 pages of letters, and 350 hours of voicemail messages, all from an older woman. Actress Jessica Gunning portrays this character in the acclaimed television series. While the woman expressed some resemblance to Gadd’s stalker, she stated, “I’m not actually unattractive.”

To avert any misinterpretations, both Gadd and Gunning implored viewers not to engage in speculative guesswork about the real-life personalities depicted in Baby Reindeer. Gadd emphasized on Instagram, “That’s not the point of the show.”
