Rick Elden, Spencer’s father, is said to have been friends with photographer Kirk Weddle. In a interview with the American news medium NPR Rick related how the photographer called him with a specific question, “Hey Rick, do you want to make $200 by throwing your kid in a pool?”, which Spencer’s dad replied.
