Thehe baby of an African migrant was born and died in an inflatable boat during the crossing between Africa and the Spanish Canary Islands, the Spanish coast guard said on Wednesday, quoted by BFM TV.
Loaded with 43 people, this makeshift boat was located 15 nautical miles east of Arrecife, the main town on the Spanish island of Lanzarote. After arriving at the port, three people were transferred to the hospital, including the mother of the infant. Another pregnant woman and a 12-year-old boy were also hospitalized for hypoglycemia.
At the moment, the cause of infant death is still unknown, says our colleague. According to the rescuers, the woman actually gave birth inside the boat. When the boat arrived at the port, the emergency service of the Spanish Canary Islands confirmed the baby’s death.
