Baby ducks dead after boys shower mother with soft drink: ‘Our hearts cry on Mother’s Day’ | Inland

On Saturday evening, two boys poured soft drinks on a brooding mother duck in Uden. They then broke eight of the ten eggs from her nest. The baby ducks were beaten to such an extent that all but one died.

Sharon (26) is devastated. The heart of the owner of Vooropvang de Maashorst in Schaijk cries on Mother’s Day. She tells audibly shocked how she worried about the fate of mother duck and her chicks on Saturday evening, which ultimately did not survive.

Girls saw everything happen

Two girls aged ten and twelve had called the Animal Ambulance because they had seen two boys of about fourteen years old harassing a mother duck at Hoogzoggel. “They followed the boys and saw everything happen”, Sharon says on Sunday morning.

The two girls saw how the boys first threw cassis over a brooding mother duck and chased her from the nest, Sharon says. “She left her ten eggs and they broke them one by one.” Except for two eggs, because the girls saw that the boys put them in their coat pockets.

After the phone call from the girls, the Animal Ambulance was quickly on the spot. He again enlisted the help of Sharon. She picked up the helpless animals to put them in an incubator as soon as possible. Every effort was made to save the premature ducks.

One chick left alive

Unfortunately it soon became clear on Sunday morning that six animals had not survived the night. “We see the other two pullekes getting worse and worse. We remain hopeful, but are afraid that the action of the two boys will ultimately unnecessarily cause ten dead animals ”, Sharon said on Facebook on behalf of the Maashorst. Later on Sunday, she had to add by phone that only one of the eight chicks is still alive.

Meanwhile, a story of a second animal cruelty came in, close to where eggs were smashed. A girl saw how a boy broke the legs of a goose, according to the Animal Ambulance report. On Sunday, caretakers try to catch the bird, so that it can also be helped.

Sharon wonders aloud how the boys got it into their heads to tackle the animals like that. Is it the upbringing, she doesn’t know. The animal lover has reported it and hopes that the two will eventually receive an appropriate punishment. “Deliberately destroying eggs is no longer a bad boy trick. This is the work of sadists, ”she concludes, snarling.
