Daniel Auster was already involved in a murder case
The tragedy happened in November, and after extensive investigations into the case, charges have been brought. According to media reports, Auster was arrested on Friday evening and officially charged by the district attorney’s office. The 44-year-old was taking care of his little daughter in his apartment in Brooklyn, New York, when she was found unconscious there on November 1st. The child died shortly afterwards in hospital.

After the 1996 murder of suspected drug dealer Andre “Angel” Melendez, Auster confessed to being in possession of $3,000 stolen by Melendez. Auster was given a suspended sentence at the time. His roommate at the time, Robert Riggs, and another suspect, Michael Alig, confessed to killing Melendez.

According to the New York Post, after the first day of the trial, Daniel Auster was rushed from the Brooklyn Criminal Court to a hospital for treatment. Police forces took the accused handcuffed to the clinic ambulance. The reason for the hospital admission is unclear.
His father Paul Auster is one of the most successful writers in the USA. He achieved international fame with his “New York Trilogy” and the novel “Leviathan”. Auster is married to the well-known writer Siri Hustvedt, who comes from a Norwegian family. Daniel is from Paul Auster’s first marriage to Lydia Davis.
