Babiš’s Mordor, election prospects, anti-Semitism and Landovský with Kerouac. The new issue of FORUM 24+ is here

It’s the second Thursday of the month, and with it comes the release of the next issue of the FORUM 24+ monthly magazine. Again, we have a lot of information, comments, analyses, but also interviews and other no less interesting texts for you. Of course, there is also the largest crossword puzzle in the Czech Republic.

There’s always something happening on the political scene, but this month has been especially nourishing thanks to the elections that have taken place. And this time the whole development was accelerated by the events surrounding the dismissal of Ivan Bartoš from the position of Minister for Regional Development.

In the title text, Johana Hovorková ponders whether Babiš’s Mordor really awaits us in a year, from which the populist Babiš will rule us together with the communist Konečná and the brown-haired Okamura, or possibly someone else. Or whether it is just a matter of premature concern based on the results of the just-concluded elections to municipal councils and part of the senate. Are we really on our way to Slovakia? Or can something still be done with it, when the parliamentary elections are less than a year away?

Today’s poll also leads to the parliamentary elections. Fourteen personalities answer the question of what needs to be done to prevent populists and extremists from coming to power. You can read what Dana Drábová thinks about it. Ivan Pilip, Jiří Pehe, Dagmar Pecková, Daniel Kroupa, Ondřej Vetchý, Ivan Gabal, Tomáš Halík, Petr Pithart, Vladimír Just, Bohumil Doležal, Alexandra Alvarová, Karel Dolejší or Václav Marhoul.

Jiří Pondělíček writes about the upcoming elections, which will not take place in our country, but will undoubtedly have an impact on our politics, who deals in detail with the fight between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris for the White House. And Tomáš Klvaňa is also devoted to Trump, whose text about Trump and covid is an example from the book The World According to Trump, which is published by the Bourdon Publishing House.

František Kalenda writes about Herbert Kickl, the head of the Austrian Free Party, who led his party to a historic triumph, in the column “Who is it that is being talked about”. Despite the fact that he won, he will probably not become chancellor in Austria.

In a large interview, Martin Dvořák, Minister for European Affairs, answers the questions posed by Dominika Machová. Pay attention to it, it’s really worth reading.

Dan Hrubý returns to the unprecedented attack by Hamas terrorists on Israel, twelve months have passed since October 7. What has changed in that time? The vile mire of anti-Semitism has bubbled to the fore, which manifests itself in Western countries, where demonstrations are taking place in support of the terrorists from Hamas and demand the actual liquidation of Israel. And unfortunately, they are also heard by the public.

Jiří X. Doležal carried out a probe into our company. What did he think the devastating flood wave showed? Why are those who are always against everyone and everything influential on social networks?

“Cultural interview” was conducted by Jana Podskalská with the Czech actress Elizaveta Maximová, who was born in Kazan, Russia. The ladies didn’t just talk about acting or filming erotic scenes, but also about the power of social networks. And politics could not be left out either.

In his text, Matěj Bartošek writes about Nick Cave, who will have a concert in Prague next week (October 17). It can be expected that it will again be a distinctive experience.

He spoke with director Milan Tesař about the documentary Janžurka, which Theodora Remundová made about her mother Iva Janžurová. It is about the film, about life and about the relationship between a daughter and a mother.

Jan Lukeš wrote the Portrait of Pavel Landovský, the unforgettable Major Terazky or perhaps the suffering young Boháček. Ten years have passed since the death of the popular actor. What was Pavel Landovský really like?

Petr Hlaváček, in a text with the slightly provocative title “Fanatic villain or national hero?” maps the Czech public’s relationship to Jan Žižek, who died 600 years ago. The excellent text ends quite clearly: “He was definitely not a Czech nationalist and a “German-eater” or a predecessor of the Czech communists, let alone a Slav and an opponent of Europe, as is sometimes portrayed by today’s nationalists bowing towards genocidal and fascist Russia.”

And history once again, this time from Pavel Šmejkal. He looked at an event exactly 80 years old. That was the first time Czechoslovak soldiers fought their way to Dukla on the original territory of the former republic. That they paid an unnecessarily high price for this was not their fault, but the fault of the Soviet command, which professed only one tactic – attack, attack and attack again. The death toll clearly shows that this was not the best tactic. Attached to the text are brief medallions of three Czechoslovak generals who fought at Dukla and whose fates were completely different.

A text written by Markéta Mitrofanová based on her own experience invites you to visit Moldova. And as he notes, “the exoticism of Eastern Europe may not suit everyone, but it is worth exploring.”

Death anniversary by the third. Karolína Němcová wrote the life story of the brilliant writer Jack Kerouac, who was obsessed with writing, but drank himself to death 55 years ago. He managed to drink a liter of whiskey in a day…

Actress Jitka Ježková played traditional ping-pong with us, and of course the biggest crossword puzzle in the Czech Republic is also included.
