The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) has expanded the scope of its activities by including loading and unloading activities in its official control. This was announced by the agency, citing a definition from a decision of the Supreme Court.
The physical checks and identity checks at the Kapitan Andreevo border point of animals and goods subject to phytosanitary and veterinary control, as well as the control of products of non-animal origin, including laboratory tests and analyses, will be carried out by the BFSA with facilities provided by the control body for unloading, opening and inspection, the agency says.
The employees of the GIP “Captain Andreevo” department will carry out the loading and unloading of the means of transport, when it is necessary to provide access to the shipments for carrying out an inspection under the official phytosanitary and veterinary control.
When expanding official control activities, the food agency takes into account the need to take urgent measures to protect public order at the Kapitan Andreevo border crossing, as well as protect the high public interest, regarding the provision of safe food imported from third countries within of the European Union, says the BBAH announcement.
