The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) receives alerts 24 hours a day telephone 0 700 122 99 for violation of the measures against the entry of plague on small ruminants in Bulgaria. Complaints are accepted on the phone and signals for unregulated imports, movements and sales of live animals. As a matter of urgency, the same will be checked by the competent authorities, with the imposition of sanctions in case of established violations.
Dr. Svetlozar Patarinski, the executive director of the Bulgarian Veterinary Union, announced this in a letter to the branch animal breeding organizations and the Bulgarian Veterinary Union.
Dr. Patarinski recalls all the measures that the Agency has taken with the aim of preventing the plague of small ruminants in Bulgaria. He calls on animal breeders for full cooperation and commitment to comply with the measures introduced in order to prevent the disease. “In view of the complicated epidemiological situation in Greece and Romania, I advise farmers not to purchase animals from other countries,” the letter also states.
At the moment, the number of affected sheep and goats in the neighboring countries is over 240,000. The disease is extremely dangerous for small ruminants and threatens their stock, and can also lead to large economic losses.
