BA Celebrates 40 Years of Democracy: A Festive Tribute to Argentina’s Independence Day

The festival was organized by the Ministry of Culture and the Undersecretary of Human Rights of Buenos Aires, who this Saturday mutated the object of the already traditional Buenos Aires Celebrates, which values ​​the traditions of the multiple communities that live in the City. At the beginning of Avenida de Mayo, where the square ends, this time it was “BA Celebrates 40 Years of Democracy”.

The promise was of various artistic and musical shows for review the last 40 years of Argentine history and “remember, reconcile and meet again.” Since early afternoon, the area looked like the prelude to a National Team match: street vendors of all kinds, many kids walking around with their faces painted light blue and white, and some adults with little flags and hats of the same colors.

Every day we should celebrate living in democracy. You have no idea what it was like to live without her. We could not comment, we lived in fear of going out and being stopped by the Police. It was horrible. And today, despite all the bad things we suffered as a country, it does not compare to what life was like before, ”she would tell them.

The central show began around 6:00 p.m., when the drizzle began to fall, but it did not move the around 8,000 people who came to the festival. The artists began to get off the cranes, in the show directed by Ricky Pashkus, an icon of musical theater, and Pichón Baldinu, a benchmark of the Buenos Aires underground and who designed the aerial theater paintings, with 100 people on stage, including more than 40 dancers aerials and a live orchestra of 25 musicians. On the screens, the images recalled the Malvinas war and the people applauded. Later, December 10, 1983 was remembered, with images of Alfonsín and newspaper covers of the time. On stage, Mario Pergolini talked about rock in those years. And then artists such as Hilda Lizarazu and Moria Casán joined, who recreated a theater picture from magazines from the 80s. The show continued late at night and it was expected to close with the Polenta Party.
