B40 Starting next year, Airlangga says IDR 404 T Foreign Trade can be safe!

The government continues to promote the use of biodiesel mixed with diesel, including B40. The plan to start using the B40 next year is to be detailed on January 1, 2025.

Coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said that biodiesel with diesel mixture could reduce 40% diesel imports by using 54.52 million kiloliters of biodiesel.

“Well, Indonesia is the only country pushing for mandatory biodiesel and this was implemented at B35 and will be increased to B40 in 2025. This biodiesel uses 54.52 million kilos and reducing diesel imports. The foreign exchange saved is IDR 404.32 trillion,” said Airlangga at the ‘Solutions to Indonesia’s Environmental Challenge’ event at Borobudur Hotel, Jakarta, on Tuesday (24/9/2024).

In 2018-2022, biodiesel distribution reached 63 million kiloliters. This has the effect of reducing greenhouse gases by 358 million carbon dioxide equivalents.

Separately, Airlangga explained that there were no obstacles in preparation for next year’s B40, including the production of crude palm oil or CPO. Because, he said, Indonesia had previously implemented B35.

“B40 is ready because we now have B35. So, there is no problem. For production it is also not a problem,” said Airlangga.

Previously, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) outlined plans for the use of biodiesel in Indonesia. Starting next year, January 1, 2025 to be precise, the government will launch B40, which is biodiesel mixed with diesel with 40% vegetable oil from palm oil.

“We have identified the technical capabilities of supply, infrastructure, feed stocks, God willing, this can be ordered for B40 January 1 2025,” said EBTKE Director General Eniya Istiani Dewi at her office, Central Jakarta, Monday (9 /9/2024).
