B-Youth Bundesliga | Home game SG Flensburg-Handewitt – HSG Schülp-Westerrönfeld-Rendsburg

The next match day, the next thriller: In a very exciting game, we managed to take a point from SG Flensburg-Handewitt. In front of around 250 spectators in the Heidesandhalle in Westerrönfeld, we once again showed a real energetic performance. The reward: the first point won in the Bundesliga.

As in the previous games, we started unfocused, nervous and made far too many mistakes. After four minutes we were 0:3 behind, so we had to call our first timeout. Despite a spurt (6:7) we didn’t really get going and had to let the SG pull ahead by seven goals (8:15, 23rd minute). That didn’t look good at all. In defense we couldn’t get the opponent’s two backcourt shooters under control and mistakes and bad throws piled up up front. With the score at 12:17 at halftime we were almost happy with it.

During the break, however, we managed to flip the famous switch. A 4-0 run shortly after the restart, and we were within one goal (18:19, 37th minute). Suddenly, many things that hadn’t worked before worked. Thure and Jalte, finally back after injury, kept us within striking distance with their goals. We didn’t let ourselves get unsettled – neither by some referee decisions that were not in our favor nor by the 26:30 in the 52nd minute.

Eight minutes left on the clock, no more timeouts, the opponents four goals ahead and in recent weeks we have often lacked the energy in the final phase. But not today: With the great support from the stands we only concede one goal, suddenly the Flensburg players show their nerves and we are able to equalize at 31:31 four minutes before the end. Both teams are looking for a decision, but it was not to be. One last blocked free throw after the final whistle and we get the first point. Definitely a draw that feels like a win!

We now have a weekend without a game before we continue away at HSV on October 5th.
