Azra Hospital Gekar Webinar “Beware of Dengue Fever in Children”

DHF attacks the immune system, so healing depends on endurance.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BOGOR — Azra Hospital held education about dengue fever in children directly with dr. Satyawati, Sp.A. AZRA Hospital Pediatrician. On transition season as now cases of dengue fever are increasing. Disease DBD is an infectious disease caused by the dengue virus with clinical manifestations of fever, muscle aches or joint pain accompanied by leukopenia, rash, lymphadenopathy, thrombocytopenia and hemorrhagic diathesis.

In dengue, plasma secretion occurs which is characterized by hemoconcentration (increased hematocrit) or accumulation of fluid in the body cavity. Dengue shock syndrome is a dengue hemorrhagic fever characterized by shock.

Many cases come to the hospital in severe conditions and it turns out that there are still many people who do not understand how to handle if there are children who have dengue fever. Like other viral diseases, dengue attacks the immune system, so healing depends on endurance.

Dr. Satyawati explained that “The first symptoms that appear are usually fever (usually 7 days), fussiness, can’t sleep, dizziness, weakness, lack of enthusiasm, nausea and vomiting, sometimes accompanied by ARI such as coughing for example.”.

Nausea and vomiting in dengue fever is caused by an enlarged liver, the child becomes weak and not excited, even accompanied by bleeding when it is heavy. “And the most severe thing is if there is DSS (dengue shock syndrome) the signs must be watched out for.” said dr. Satyawati.

Many parents feel anxious when dealing with fever and there are several things parents need to know about fever in DHF. “Typical fever in dengue fever is a high fever, and like a horse’s saddle, on the 4th day the fever will go down, but be careful, shock or DSS can occur, namely circulation disturbances, sometimes causing death.” clear dr. Satyawati.

Often parents are afraid, especially if their child has a history of seizures, so when they come to the doctor they ask for a laboratory examination on day 1. The dNS one laboratory examination 1 x 24 hours can only be detected, if it has been 3 days using the dengue rapid test (DRT)

Dr. Satyawati advised that “Be careful, the sign of DSS is when the fever goes down accompanied by the dominant symptoms of nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, you should immediately go to the doctor, it is better on the 2nd day it is hot and immediately taken to the doctor. Because if the shock phase has occurred, coming to the hospital will be difficult to handle and can even cause death.”
