Azplicueta Responds to Ruediger’s Conflict Issue at Chelsea

London

Captain Chelsea César Azpilicueta said to have had a dispute with Antonio Ruediger before Frank Lampard fired. Azpilicueta felt the issue was exaggerated.

Several rumors accompanied Lampard’s dismissal on Monday (25/1/2021). One of them was the rift in the Chelsea dressing room where Azpilicueta and Ruediger reportedly fought more than once in training.

The German defender was said to have damaged the harmony of the Chelsea squad, which was then under attack from fans on social media. Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham had a chance to reduce speculation regarding the conditions in his team, and was supported by Azpilicueta.

Azpilicueta and Ruediger played together in a 0-0 draw with Wolves to mark Thomas Tuchel’s debut as Chelsea’s new coach. Azpilicueta insisted he had no problem with Ruediger, although he indicated that the two had argued.

“With Toni, we had no problems and we’ve been working together for several years,” said Azpilicueta of Independent. “It’s a story from the outside, we’re not sure so that’s why Tammy and I both tweeted.”

“Everything is fine and I can say that it didn’t happen. We don’t have any problems and we don’t have. We always work together.”

“Like the other players, we do have conversations sometimes, it’s normal in football. When the results don’t go smoothly, everyone has more tension but no further than this,” continued the tiny Spanish defender.

“Ordinary footballers are like ordinary workers in their offices or in other jobs with the pressure to do well and nothing more than this. There is no problem, we are fully committed,” Azpilicueta fend off the bickering news with Ruediger.
