Vietnam got a penalty plus a red card lead for Malaysian defender, Azam Azmi AFF Cup 2022. The following incidents resulted in referee Ryuji Sato taking a penalty.
Malaysia, currently superior in number of players, are trying to find the equaliser. However, when they were attacked by Vietnam, Azam Azmi tried to block Doan Van Hau, who was advancing from the right side of the Malaysian defence.
Azmi managed to block the ball but both he and Doan Van Hau rolled and fell towards the board. Doan Van Hau landed on his back while Azmi sat.
Both coincide. When Azmi tried to get up, her right foot landed on Doan Van Hau’s face.
After that moment, Azmi got up and stood up to continue the game. Meanwhile Doan Van Hau held his face and lay down on the ground.
Referee Ryuji Sato saw this as a deliberate action by Azmi and awarded a penalty. Ryuji Sato then had time to communicate with the linesman and then issued a red card for Azmi.
Ryuji Sato’s decision regarding violations that occurred outside the match field area refers to the rules of the International Football Association Agency (IFAB).
According to Article 12.4 regarding infringements and errors, it is stated that if a player infringes the opponent outside the match area, a penalty kick may be awarded if the incident is parallel to box 16.
Que Ngoc Hai managed to score a white point goal and give Vietnam a 2–0 lead. Under the same conditions playing with 10 people later, Vietnam was able to score a third goal through Nguyen Hoang Duc in the 83rd minute.
Vietnam also successfully finished the game with a 3-0 win over Malaysia.
