The Russian air carrier Azimuth will be able to operate direct flights from Moscow to Tbilisi from May 17 after the Georgian air regulator has given it a permit.
This, as reported byEuropean truth“on the air of the TV channel”NamelyGivi Davitashvili, head of the Georgian Civil Aviation Authority, said on Monday.
According to Davitashvili, five airlines, both Russian and Georgian, have already submitted applications to the Georgian aviation regulator for servicing direct flights between the two countries.
“Of these, one company has already been checked, namely Azimuth, which will be able to serve flights from May 17. Today, the Georgian Civil Aviation Authority issued a corresponding permit,” he announced.
The head of the regulator stressed that not a single Russian company that is under sanctions will receive permission to fly to Georgia; the same will not be allowed and aircraft, the service of which the manufacturer has stopped.
May 10 Russian President Vladimir Putin canceled the visa regime for citizens of Georgia and at the same time lifted the flight ban Russian airlines to Georgia.
Earlier it became known that already this week the Russian airline “Azimuth” and the Georgian Georgian Airways plans to launch flights from Moscow to Tbilisi.
Representatives of official Tbilisi welcomed Moscow’s decision and explained this by the interests of those Georgian citizens who live in Russia and who had difficulties with coming home.
