Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said that any attempts by Armenia to include the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) in the text of the peace agreement with Baku are counterproductive. Mr. Aliyev said that Azerbaijan handed over four draft peace agreements to Armenia more than a month ago. According to the President of Azerbaijan, a week ago Armenia presented its commentary on the peace treaty, which contained territorial claims against Baku and was mentioned by the NKR.
Mr. Aliyev expressed hope that Armenia would show constructiveness in the negotiation process with Azerbaijan. If this does not happen, Baku will not take any measures other than diplomatic ones, the President stressed. “That’s enough for us. Therefore, there will be no peace, no communication, and they will be isolated again,” he added.
On May 1, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan Ararat Mirzoyan and Jeyhun Bayramov held talks in Arlington (Virginia). The meeting took place on the initiative of Mr. Blinken, who stepped up his diplomatic activity after the Azerbaijani military, despite the protests of Yerevan, set up a checkpoint in the Lachin corridor (connecting Karabakh with Armenia) on April 23.
