Cristiano Ronaldo‘s absence didn’t prevent Portugal from imposing their game on Azerbaijan and grabbing a comfortable 3-0 victory at the Baku Olympic Stadium in their World Cup Qualifier thanks to goals from their three starting forwards Bernardo Silva, Andre Silva and Diogo Jota.

Fernando Santos‘ men dominated the ball from the off and managed to take a two-goal lead in a space of just five minutes midway throughout the first half.

The Manchester City attacker broke the deadlock for the visitors 26 minutes in and Whom teed up Andre Silva for Portugal‘s second just after the half an our mark.

In between the two goals, Azar Salahli produced a brilliant volley, but his effort went just wide in Azerbaijan‘s pursuit of an equaliser.

Andre Silva could have put the game to bed before the break, but he failed to hit the target. Then, Jota wasted another two chances after the interval, but the Liverpool forward managed to get his name on the scoresheet in the 75th minute and rounded off Portugal‘s victory.

Portugal now top Group A with 13 points and one game in hand, while second-placed Serbia are three points behind Santos’ side, as they face Ireland on Tuesday evening.
