AZ traveled to Italy with nineteen players on Wednesday for the Europa League match with Napoli on Thursday evening, the club said know. The selection of the Alkmaarders has changed considerably due to the many corona infections at the club.
Compared to last Saturday’s Eredivisie match against VVV-Venlo (2-2), only Myron Boadu is missing from the selection of the basic players. Zakaria Aboukhlal, Hakon Evjen, Juan Familia-Castillo and Tijani Reijnders, who sat on the bench, are also not there.
Jordy Clasie, Ron Vlaar, Timo Letschert and Ferdy Druijf, who normally can also be found in the match selection of AZ, were not there against VVV-Venlo and are not traveling to Italy.
Marco Bizot, on the other hand, is in the selection of trainer Arne Slot. That is at the expense of André Krul. Bizot was missing against VVV due to his red card in the game with Sparta Rotterdam (4-4) a week earlier. Youngsters Tijs Velthuis (18), Kenzo Goudmijn (18), Mo Taabouni (18) and Maxim Gullit (19) also have a place in the selection.
AZ reported eight new corona cases within the group of players on Tuesday. There are now a total of thirteen players of the Alkmaar club infected. UEFA will continue the game in Naples. According to the European Football Association, a club must be able to mobilize thirteen players (at least one of whom is a keeper).
Napoli-AZ starts on Thursday at 6.55 pm. The game in the group stage of the Europa League is led by Polish referee Daniel Stefański.
