‘AZ trainer Slot main candidate for succession Lawyer at Feyenoord’ | NOW

Feyenoord wants to sign Arne Slot as trainer for next season. According to AD in Football International the AZ trainer is the most important candidate to succeed Dick Advocaat.

Feyenoord has not confirmed the alleged interest and Slot also says nothing about a possible transfer to De Kuip, where it was announced earlier this week that Lawyer will leave after this season.

The 42-year-old Slot has been head coach of AZ since mid-2019, where he was previously assistant to John van den Brom. He has impressed the past eighteen months with the Alkmaar club, which finished second in the Eredivisie last season.

This season he has a good chance of wintering in the Europa League with AZ. AZ is seventh in the league, after four victories in the last four games.

De Wolf is still attached as an assistant

Should Slot, who retired from PEC Zwolle as a player in 2013, actually become a trainer of Feyenoord, he may get John de Wolf as one of his assistants. The 57-year-old former defender is still with the fifteen-time national champion until mid-2022. Cor Pot, Advocaat’s other assistant, does have an expiring contract.

Earlier this year it was reported that Dirk Kuijt was an option to succeed Advocaat as coach. The club management of the Rotterdammers has promised the 104-time international that he may one day become the head coach of Feyenoord, but last summer Kuijt announced that there is no hurry.

Feyenoord is currently fourth in the Eredivisie and will play at home against Heracles Almelo on Sunday at 12.15. The first confrontation this season between Feyenoord and AZ is on January 24 in De Kuip.
