Watch the summary of AZ – sc Heerenveen

AZ treated sc Heerenveen to a huge defeat in Alkmaar: 9-1. It was the biggest victory ever for AZ in the Eredivisie. At half-time the score was only 2-1, but after the break the Alkmaarders rolled over the team of novice trainer Robin van Persie.

For Heerenveen it was an equalisation of the biggest defeat ever in the Eredivisie, with the 0-8 against PSV earlier this year on April 25. Heerenveen had never conceded nine goals before.

AZ had a good start with a goal from Sven Mijnans and had a few chances to increase the score, but the visitors came back into the game, Luuk Brouwers nodded in a finely cut free kick from Mats Köhlert. It was the first goal conceded of the Eredivisie season for AZ and goalkeeper Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro.

Despite nine attempts on goal in the previous matches, Irishman Troy Parrott was still dry in the AZ shirt and that is never fun for a striker. Against Heerenveen, his drought came to an end in the 23rd minute. He tapped in a cross from Ibrahim Sadiq.

Owusu-Oduro prevented the 2-2 from Ion Nicolaescu and Ilias Sebaoui hit the crossbar. After the break, things quickly went wrong for the Frisians.

Goal fest in second half

Parrot made a clean hat trick. On a pass from Sadiq he made it 3-1 in the 48th minute, after a mistake by goalkeeper Mickey van der Hart the AZ striker made it 4-1 in the 50th minute on a pass from Jordy Clasie and in the 56th minute the Irishman made it 5-1, after another mistake in the build-up by Heerenveen.

Parrott was not only off the mark, but thanks to his four goals tonight in Alkmaar he also became joint top scorer in the Eredivisie, together with PSV’s Hirving Lozano.

A fifth goal for Parrott could have been possible, but in the 72nd minute Sadiq decided to shoot himself and with success. Substitute Mexx Meerdink, Parrott’s replacement, fired the 7-1 into the net and via substitutes Kristijan Belic and Zico Buurmeester it even became 9-1.
