For AZ coach Pascal Jansen, a departure from Riechedly Bazoer is not negotiable. The 26-year-old defender annex midfielder submitted a transfer request earlier this summer, but the cards have now been shuffled differently in Alkmaar.

Bazoer grabbed his chance after the departure of Sam Beukema to Bologna and due to the necessary injuries in the back. As a football defender, the former player of Ajax, Wolfsburg and Vitesse made a strong impression during the preparation.
“Riechedly is doing really well. He had a difficult first year with us with two giants in midfield,” Jansen told Voetbal International, referring to Jordy Clasie and the now departed Tijjani Reijnders. “When he was finally able to play last season, he got injured.”

Jansen is crystal clear about a possible transfer of the six-time international. “As far as I’m concerned, that’s not negotiable,” says the coach. “When Sam was around, it wasn’t surprising that he was thinking about something else. His perspective is completely different now and that’s crucial to keep the sacred fire burning. He adds something extra, so as far as I’m concerned he’ll stick with it .”
AZ is preparing for the clash with Santa Coloma in the third preliminary round of the Conference League. The first game starts on Thursday at 7 p.m. in Andorra.
