Singer Ayumi recently revealed that she is taking medication for hypothyroidism while preparing for pregnancy. The announcement was made during an episode of the Channel A entertainment program ‘I am a Body Season 2’, which aired on the 22nd.
During the show, Ayumi expressed her satisfaction with her appearance that day. She explained that she had undergone a prenatal test as part of her preparations for pregnancy, and it revealed a potential risk of hypothyroidism. As a result, she has been taking medication to manage the condition.
Interestingly, Ayumi shared that 9 out of 10 items on the hypothyroidism checklist conducted on the broadcast corresponded to her symptoms. The only item she did not choose was ‘I am always depressed and have severe emotional ups and downs’. In response, Ayumi humorously stated, “She’s not depressed, she’s always happy,” which brought laughter to the set.
Neurosurgeon Kim Il-cheon provided an explanation of hypothyroidism, describing the thyroid gland as a “boiler switch” that regulates metabolism. When the body’s metabolism is disrupted, even if the switch is turned on, it does not function properly. Symptoms of hypothyroidism include feeling cold, low blood pressure, cold hands and feet, and easy weight gain.
Dr. Kim also highlighted that hypothyroidism can be caused by the destruction of thyroid tissue due to autoimmune problems. Additionally, abnormalities can occur as a result of pregnancy, childbirth, and stress.
Ayumi, who married a non-celebrity two years her senior in October of last year, is now taking the necessary steps to ensure a healthy pregnancy. By openly discussing her experience with hypothyroidism, she is raising awareness about the condition and providing support to others who may be going through similar challenges.
